Septal Obturator

Sometimes a perforation appears in the nose partition, nasal septum. This perforation causes problems like bleedings and unwanted sounds, but can be repaired surgically or with a prosthesis. A custom-made septal obturator is created of medical silicone and, as this method works so well today, surgery is only used in exceptional cases. The obturator obstructs the perforation in the nasal septum, preventing bleeding, crusting and unwanted sounds. If left untreated, the perforation can increase in size, thus causing bigger problems.
Ansiktsprotetiska kliniken in Malmö is one of very few clinics in Sweden working with this type of prosthesis.
Normally, two appointments are required – one for making an imprint of the perforation, and one to attach the septal obturator.
