Orbital Prosthesis

Sometimes the surgical removal of the entire eyelid and eye socket is necessary; an “orbitae excentration”. In these cases, the prosthesis needs to replace the eye itself, as well as its surroundings. The eye part of the orbital prosthesis is created of acrylic, while the surrounding skin is made of silicone. The orbital prosthesis has lashes as well as eyebrows, for as life-like a result as possible. Titanium implants are preferable for retention, but skin glue or spectacle frames are just as common.
